Old School Friday #2

Here we are again Old School Friday! Ms Grapevine and MarvalusOne have teamed up to create a meme titled Old School Friday and since I love my classic R&B I had to sign up to join. If you want to join in the Old School Fun then go HERE for the guidelines.

So here is my contribution to Old School Friday - Taste Of Honey!!

The group formed in LA and originally consisted of Janice Marie Johnson (vocals, bass), Hazel Payne (vocals, guitar), Perry Kibble (keyboards) and Donald Johnson (drums).

Their first single, "Boogie Oggie, Oggie", from their debut album A Taste of Honey, tapped into the popular disco style and spent three weeks at number one (#1) on the Hot 100 in 1978. The group was awarded a platinum record for this single and album and went on the win the Grammy Award for Best New Artist. Their subsequent disco releases, such as "Do It Good" (#79 in 1979) from Another Taste and "Rescue Me" (1980) failed to attract attention, and by 1980 the group had reduced to a duo consisting of Johnson and Payne.

When recording their cover version of the Kyu Sakamoto song ""Sukiyaki"" (from their third album - Twice As Sweet, released in 1980) they resisted suggestions to turn it into a dance tune, and as a soft and simple ballad it brought them the second and final major hit of their careers in 1981, when it reached number one (#1) on the Billboard R&B and Adult Contemporary charts and number three (#3) on Hot 100. The group were awarded a gold record for this single.
Janice Marie Johnson is the older sister of Tony, Toni, Tone singer Raphael Saadiq

I'm loving this meme! I saw it on Rosemarie's blog too. Watcha learn! I didn't know Ms Johnson was related to one of the singers in Tony, Toni, Tone. Love the pix.

Maybe one of these days I'll join in the fun.

Boogie Oggie Oggie and Sukiyaki are the only two songs that I remember from this group. But Boogie Oggie Oggie was good enough to last them quite awhile. That song was HUGE!

Regina,

I received my gift bag today and was so pleased. You put together a really nice bag! I am so glad that I entered.

Some of the gift bags at conferences that I go to aren't anywhere near this nice and packed with items that you want to have. Good job.

Thanks a million, have a great weekend! :D

Sorry I missed this week's meme.

Good pick! I grooved until the end. The stage and audience resembles an awards show.

Regina means What??

What Regina Means
You are wild, crazy, and a huge rebel. You're always up to something. You have a ton of energy, and most people can't handle you. You're very intense. You definitely are a handful, and you're likely to get in trouble. But your kind of trouble is a lot of fun. You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone. You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together. At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together. You are deeply philosophical and thoughtful. You tend to analyze every aspect of your life. You are intuitive, brilliant, and quite introverted. You value your time alone. Often times, you are grumpy with other people. You don't appreciate them trying to interfere in your affairs. You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing. You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long. You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start. You are very intuitive and wise. You understand the world better than most people. You also have a very active imagination. You often get carried away with your thoughts. You are prone to a little paranoia and jealousy. You sometimes go overboard in interpreting signals. You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection. You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive. You have the classic "Type A" personality.
