Bloggers Unite For Human Rights!

Today May 15, 2008 some bloggers are involved in a collective effort to bring the issue of HUMAN RIGHTS to the forefront of our minds and hearts. If you for whatever reason do not know, want or agree with the issue of HUMAN RIGHTS let me ask you two questions…

Are YOU human? Do you want, need, or have rights? If you answered YES to either of these questions (If you answered NO than email me and I will definitely pray for you!!) than the issue of HUMAN RIGHTS is YOUR issue too!!

What are HUMAN RIGHTS?

HUMAN RIGHTS as defined by dictionary.com is: fundamental rights, esp. those believed to belong to an individual and in whose exercise a government may not interfere, as the rights to speak, associate, work, etc.

HUMAN RIGHTS as defined by the American Heritage Dictionary:

The basic rights and freedoms to which all humans are entitled, often held to include the right to life and liberty, freedom of thought and expression, and equality before the law.

So now that you know what Human Rights are let me ask you these two questions… Have your Human Rights EVER been violated, taken away or abused?

Have you ever in your lifetime seen or heard of the Human Rights of other people being violated, abused or taken away?

If you answered YES to either of these questions than I urge you take a moment and think about what you can do to help yourself or others who have had their basic Human rights violated. Please don’t think that it is not your issue or that there is nothing that you can do, because there is. You can start by educating yourself about the issues! People worldwide are having their rights violated. People in Asia (think –Sri Lanka & Burma); People in Africa (think – Darfur & Zimbabwe); People in the good old United States (think - Guantanamo & African Americans). That’s right; RACISIM is definitely a violation of HUMAN RIGHTS! So to find out more about Human Rights please visit the three sites listed below to find out what YOU can do to help yourself or others who may have Human Rights issues. Educate and Activate yourself! Help yourself & help others…Please.

Amnesty International (http://www.amnesty.org/)

Human Right Watch (http://www.hrw.org/)

Youth For Human Rights (http://www.youthforhumanrights.org)

You can also visit the site Bloggers Unite Group (http://www.blogcatalog.com/group/bloggers-unite)

To read what other bloggers posted about HUMAN RIGHTS … or the lack there of.

Ok, so now you have had your class titled Introduction To Human Rights, also known as HUMAN RIGHTS 101. This is only the beginning of your HUMAN RIGHTS education; the rest is up to you! The power words for today are EDUCATE & ACTIVATE! What will YOU do next?

Girl, Where Are Your Parents??

I have recently come across this video of a young "lady" who could not go to her prom because of the type of clothing that she was wearing. This video is making the rounds so let me put my two cents in the mix. I am all for freedom of expression but in this case I must ask where are this child's parents? Our society is full of young people who are trying to express themselves through their choice of clothing, their choice of music, their choice of associations and society as a whole has sat back and done nothing. In this instance I applaud the Principal of the school for taking a stand and saying that enough is enough. This child is not appropriately dressed for a school function and thus was rightly prohibited from entering. She also had attire guidelines prior to the prom and yet she still choose to wear her custom made dress. Where is this child's mother or other authority figure in her life? What adult cosigned the appropriateness of this dress? Where is the adult(s) that love this child enough to tell her that right is right and wrong is wrong? she is a very pretty young lady, someone should tell her that she is beautiful even fully clothed. Where are her mentors, role models...SOMEBODY! Doesn't this girl know there are all manners of freaks, pedophiles, rapists, molesters, and murderers out there just waiting for opportunities like this?
When will we as a society take a stand against the sheer ridiculousness of the youth of this era, the disrespect they so blatantly display in their actions, mannerisms and behaviors. Disrespect not only for authority and for us but the disrespect of themselves? When will the parents step up and put these baybay kids in check?
When my now 14 year old daughter turns 17 and is ready to attend her prom, believe me when I say "WE" will pick a dress together that is appropriate. It will no doubt be FIERCE but it will also definitely be classy and tasteful. It will not be a dress that says come F$#k me and then by me some McDonalds, or come rape me and leave me by the side of the road, it will be a dress that says I am beautiful, BUT You Can't Touch This!!!

My heart breaks and my spirit weeps for this child...

My Mother's Day...was Fabulous!

My mother exposed me to some of the finest things in life and made sure that I learned life lessons from my experiences! My mother helped mold me into the woman I am today.

She took me to galleries and introduced me to art.

She took me to museums and introduced me to history.

She took me to stores and introduced me to budgeting!

She took me to plays and operas and introduced me to music.

She took me to libraries and introduced me to learning.

She took me to restaurants and introduced me to cuisine.

She took me to church and introduced me to God.

We visited and traveled to many places across the United States but the best place to learn was where I lived as a child, which was NYC! Living in the Big Apple gave me a richness and exposure to cultural diversity that can’t be gotten anyplace else. My mother took us to Broadway Musicals, the Botanical Gardens, the Museum of Natural History. We have tasted some of the finest foods in the country and meet some of the finest people from Hassidic Jews to descendants of Polish immigrants. Every day life in the city was a teachable moment! As a matter of fact every day with my mother was a teachable moment! Life hasn’t always been easy but it has been interesting! My mother is the best mother in the world to me and I wouldn’t trade her for another!

So to my mother, I Love you and thank you for my life!
Happy Mother's Day!

So now that you have the introduction to my mother! I can move on to how I spent my Mother's Day. I started my morning with a very early breakfast in bed. My oldest daughter made me a Frittata and let me tell you it was delicious!

And Then I got a dozen yellowish/pinkish roses from my daughter in law, and a dozen red roses from my younger son, and my sister gave me 6 pink roses. My assortment is fabulous!

Then I napped and got up to go have brunch with a group of FABULOUS ladies!

My mother, my sister, my daughter in law, and I went to Crescent Beach Inn, which is a very nice establishment located on Lake Ontario. We ate, laughed, and had a great time together. We talked about the future, our plans, and our upcoming move to Texas! We talked about the many, many blessings that God has showered upon our family! It was a great way to spend my day! By the way did I already say that these ladies are FABULOUS!!!!

We had an awesome time!! I pray that your Mother's Day was AWESOME too!!
Peace & Love!

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to All The Mothers Of The World!!! You are loved, honored, cherished, and respected for all that you do. Today is your day, so enjoy every minute of it!

For you, my favorite bible passage "The Virtuous Wife" or "The Wife Of Noble Character" proverbs 31:10-31...
The Virtuous Wife
10 Who can find a virtuous wife?
For her worth is far above rubies.
11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her;
So he will have no lack of gain.
12 She does him good and not evil
All the days of her life.
13 She seeks wool and flax,
And willingly works with her hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships,
She brings her food from afar.
15 She also rises while it is yet night,
And provides food for her household,
And a portion for her maidservants.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
From her profits she plants a vineyard.
17 She girds herself with strength,
And strengthens her arms.
18 She perceives that her merchandise is good,
And her lamp does not go out by night.
19 She stretches out her hands to the distaff,
And her hand holds the spindle.
20 She extends her hand to the poor,
Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy.
21 She is not afraid of snow for her household,
For all her household is clothed with scarlet.
22 She makes tapestry for herself;
Her clothing is fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is known in the gates,
When he sits among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
And supplies sashes for the merchants.
25 Strength and honor are her clothing;
She shall rejoice in time to come.
26 She opens her mouth with wisdom,
And on her tongue is the law of kindness.
27 She watches over the ways of her household,
And does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children rise up and call her blessed;
Her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “ Many daughters have done well,
But you excel them all.”
30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing,
But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands,
And let her own works praise her in the gates.

Hi There Blogging Family!

Today being Monday, I have to post my Blog Of The Week. Well today's pick is a blog not about politics, or about humor, it is simply about one person's fight with divorce and drama. We often hear the stories of mothers fighting with the legal system, fighting with deadbeat dads for child support, and so on and so forth. Well this blog is one Man's fight with drama being a single father with custody of his three children
My pick for Today's Blog Of The Week is, Custody, Divorce and the Court System. This blog reads like a diary, and will tug at your heart. having had my own issues with divorce, custody, and the court system, I found this blog to be especially endearing to me.
Please go by and share some love.

By the way this is another site that I found via the Entrecard system!
